Sewhi Ahafo Police station: Armed robbers steal Ak47 rifle and ammunition

Image
An Ak47 rifle, ammunition and other police properties have been stolen from the Sewhi Asafo Police Station in the Sewhi Wiaso Municipality of the Western North Region by suspected armed robbers. The suspected armed robbers allegedly broke into an iron railed window to gain access. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected robbers were highly organised and possibly familiar with the station’s security layout. Police officers on duty at the time of the attack were reportedly caught off guard. The suspected armed robbers targeted the residence of a Catholic priest following the attack with images suggesting that the robbers fired shots at the scene. The Inspector in charge at the Sewhi Asafo station has been interdicted while investigations continue.

Pope in critical condition following respiratory health complications

Image
Pope Francis' health has once again raised concerns as he remains in critical condition after suffering a prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis on Saturday, the Vatican has confirmed. In a statement, the Vatican reported that the 88-year-old pontiff’s health had deteriorated, requiring blood transfusions due to a low platelet count associated with anaemia. He is also receiving high-flow oxygen to manage pneumonia in both lungs, and his prognosis remains guarded. Despite his worsening state, the Pope remains alert and seated in his armchair, though suffering more than yesterday, the statement added. The Vatican has committed to providing daily updates on Pope Francis’s health, in line with his request for transparency. However, despite earlier indications that he was responding to treatment, officials now describe his condition as highly delicate, with even the slightest change posing a risk. The Pope was first admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on 14 February after experiencing...

Ho: RESEC temporarily closes Sokode SHS following clash between students and residents

Image
The Volta Regional Security Council (RESEC) temporarily closed Sokode Senior High Technical School on Sunday, 23rd February, following a clash between students and residents of the Sokode community. A teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that on Friday, 21st February, some 'notorious' students entered the community without permission and had confrontations with local residents. This led to one of the residents sustaining an injury. In retaliation, around ten young people from the community besieged the school premises on Sunday, 23rd February, seeking revenge. During the confrontation, the student population of over one thousand clashed with the smaller group of town residents, overpowering them. As a result, the community members were beaten by the students and sustained injuries, with some students also being hurt. In the process, some school property, including a vehicle belonging to a staff member, was vandalised. The violent clash in the afternoon drew...

You let referee down - Owen slams VAR over Everton's penalty claim against Man Utd

Image
💬💬Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen has slammed VAR for ‘letting the referee down’ over Everton’s penalty claim in their Premier League 2-2 draw with the Red Devils on Saturday. Everton were two goals up by half time, thanks to goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure. In the second half, Bruno Fernandes pulled one back for United before Manuel Ugarte found the net with 10 minutes remaining. However, David Moyes’ side then had a strong claim for a penalty as both Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire pulled at Ashley Young’s shirt before the Everton defender tumbled inside the penalty box. Referee Andy Madley immediately pointed to the spot. But the VAR, Matt Donohue, instructed Madley to review his decision which was then overturned. Madkey had watched the replay of the incident on the pitch-side monitor before making the decision. However, Owen was not pleased with VAR’s decision. “They’ve not looked at the right angle, in my opinion,” Owen told Premier League Productions. ...

Laryea Kingston slams management interference in Black Starlets player selection

Image
Former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, has raised concerns over increasing management interference in player selection across Ghana’s national teams. Recent discussions have spotlighted claims of influential figures within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) meddling in team selections, a trend Kingston described as “inappropriate.” Speaking to Joy Sports , Kingston, who resigned after Ghana’s exit from the U-17 WAFU tournament in Accra, condemned the practice and recounted personal experiences of such interference. “I don’t think it’s appropriate for a management member to interfere in a coach’s job. For example, if a coach leaves out a player and a management member calls to ask, ‘Who are you to drop this player?’ that is wrong,” he stated. He also revealed instances where he was pressured to alter his squad. “If someone calls me two weeks before a tournament, after I’ve already selected my squad, and asks me to drop two players to include their own choices, I don’t thin...

iPhone 17 Pro’s Pixel inspired camera bump will adopt Apple’s design philosophy

Image
The iPhone 17 series has been rumored multiple times to feature a rear camera bump heavily inspired by the Google Pixel 9 and its predecessors. This contentious decision, if true, runs the risk of Apple losing its identity with its next flagship phones. But a new supply chain report has shed just a little more light on how Apple is approaching this change. The iPhone has maintained a very recognizable look for years and it basically screams Apple. Minimalistic yet comfortable, the iPhone avoided the complaints that some users made about previous Galaxy Ultra phones. While most manufacturers try to make their phones stick out amidst the crowd the iPhone has a very simple and almost bland shape. So the Pixel inspired rear camera — which is a narrow bump on the iPhone 17 Air — is going to be a change of scenery if nothing else. But according to an industry insider Apple is still going to inject its own design principles onto the camera bump. It is still very unmistakably inspi...

Asensio scores twice as Villa come back to beat Chelsea

Image
New signing Marco Asensio got his first two Aston Villa goals as they came from behind to beat Chelsea and grab a valuable three points in their push for European qualification. An excellent piece of play out wide from Pedro Neto fashioned a ninth-minute opener for Chelsea, with the winger skipping past Ian Maatsen before drilling a low delivery across the face of goal which only required a slight prod from Enzo Fernandez to turn it past Emilio Martinez. But Chelsea did not seize control and half-time substitute Marcus Rashford – who was initially ruled offside before the video assistant referee system overturned the decision – helped Aston Villa to level when he tapped a Matty Cash delivery across the six-yard box for Asensio to bundle home. After once again being fed by fellow mid-season recruit Rashford, Asensio then netted a 90th-minute winner thanks to a huge mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who allowed a first-time strike to slide underneath him. Villa start...

Ras Kuuku questions high salaries of state CEOs

Image
Reggae/Dancehall artist Ras Kuuku has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the hefty monthly salaries of some state-owned enterprise Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Managing Directors (MDs). Reacting to reports that the former SIC Managing Director received a sta ggering GH¢70,000 monthly salary, Ras Kuuku questioned the fairness of such compensation packages, particularly when compared to the President’s salary. The singer expressed his confusion and disappointment, wondering why the President, who appoints CEOs and MDs, receives a lower salary than these appointees. “Seriously, if you read or hear some of the monthly salaries these state CEOs and MDs receive, it’s quite huge, but I don’t really know how much the President receives,” he said in a recent interview. “Even if the President receives 25K, it’s nowhere close to what these CEOs and MDs get because we are talking about some people who are taking 90K or more every month. “But these CEOs and MDs are appointed by ...
