Ghana’s independence story

Image
On the eve of 6th March, 1957, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah is reported to have made a profound statement. “From now on, there is a new African who is ready to fight his own battle and show that after all, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs.” Sixty-eight years later, it remains arguable whether the black man has been capable of managing his own affairs. While some black man-filled African countries can be said to have shown capability, same cannot be said for several others. Sadly, a diagnosis of Ghana’s situation depends on who is the doctor. As a citizen of Ghana, who has been around for a significant part of the 68 years of independence, my view is that we are capable of managing our own affairs, yet we have not been able to do so. The current state of our economy and the fact that a huge percentage of our national budget is financed by donors, shows our incapacity to manage our own affairs. A recent decision by returnee American President, Donald Trump, to stop givin...

AI-generated content, including text, images, audio, and video, has become a powerful tool for fraudsters, enabling them to create highly convincing and sophisticated scams. Here’s how AI-generated content is being misused: 1. Phishing scams with AI-generated text AI-powered language models, such as ChatGPT, can generate highly realistic and personalised emails, messages, or social media posts. Scammers use these tools to craft phishing emails that mimic legitimate communications from banks, government agencies, or well-known companies. For example: fake customer support messages claiming unauthorised transactions. Emails imp...

Why Roman Abramovic has not been able to access the £2.5billion money from the sale of Chelsea

Image
Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly not had access to the £2.5 billion derived from the sale of the club in 2022. According to Sky Sports, the Russian billionaire has not accessed the money in three years, as his UK account remains frozen. The report suggests that the UK government's intended use of the funds contradicts Abramovich's wishes, as he wants the money to benefit "all victims of the war", which would include Russians. Meanwhile, the UK government insists the funds should be directed toward "humanitarian causes in Ukraine." A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed the UK government's stance on the matter. "This government is working hard to ensure the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea FC reach humanitarian causes in Ukraine as quickly as possible." The spokesperson also affirmed that Abramovich's account remains frozen while they work on disbursing the money. "The pro...
